Apart from the many historical associations, this is of course a wonderful wine route – walking from village to village, following hillside paths that cross the famous wine ‘crus’ of the “Côte de Beaune” and the “Côte Chalonnaise”, including Pommard and Chassagne-Montrachet, and enjoying beautiful scenery traced with stone walls. A highlight is completing the journey at one of the great places of pilgrimage – Cluny.

Day 1: Welcome
Arrive at your hotel in Beaune, known as the capital of wine. You will be met here and everything you need for your holiday will be handed over. Places to visit: the “Chapelle Saint Jacques”, the “Commanderie du Temple” and the “Hospices”.
Day 2: Beaune – Chagny 21km [+189 m / -188 m]
Your first walking day will take you across the vine-clad hills of the Hautes Côtes de Beaune and through villages from Volnay to Meursault where you will find the remains of an ancient castle. Finish at Chagny, with its Xvth. Century observation tower and fine architecture.
Day 3: Chagny – Dracy le Fort ~21 km [+431 m / -445 m]
Continue through vineyards visiting Rully, a Gallo-Roman camp, known as the “Camp de César” and the charming village of Mercurey and its ramparts. You will pass ancient crosses, old communal wash houses and vintner houses, en route to Givry and Dracy le Fort.
Day 4: Dracy Le Fort – Saint Boil ~29km [+599 m / -567 m]
This route along the “Voie Verte” will bring forest scenery and country villages with “cabottes” (small stone huts built by vine growers) … A immersion in the Burgundy countryside, with vineyards, forest, fields with ‘Charolaise’ cows and nice villages.
Day 5: Saint Boil – Cluny ~29km [+401 m / -392 m]
Today the countryside becomes. It is worth, stomping in St Gengoux-le-National to visit its Romanesque Church, its ramparts, its gargoyles, and its belfry., visiting the chateau and garden at Cormatin and the great place of pilgrimage, Taizé. Your walk will end in Cluny, which in the Middle Ages was the spiritual centre of Europe, with a huge influence on religion, intellect, art and politics. Places to see include the Abbey, the fortification remains, the “Haras National” (Stud farm).
Day 6: Depart after breakfast.
BEAUNE. Hostellerie de la Bretonnière***
Nice hotel, hosted in an ancient relay station from 18th century, at about 5 minutes’ walk from the center town. It is a family hotel, in a very peaceful place despite its location in town. The hotel has a nice garden, a conservatory, a terrace, a bar and a parking.
