Amalfi Coast walking holidays, or the Costiera Amalfitana, has for long been considered one of the great scenic places in Italy and in Europe. To really enjoy it is no longer easily possible by car, as the traffic along the single coast road makes it all but impossible to find space or time to enjoy the view. But with Amalfi Coast walking holidays on foot, you can enjoy this magnificent area in all its splendour. Seven nights with six days walking will take you to Ravello, Amalfi, Positano, and you finish in lovely Sorrento overlooking the Bay of Naples, from where you can also take the boat to Capri for the day and do the walk we include, or visit Pompeii or Herculaneum.

18 March to 30 November – Spring is a lovely time to do this walk with mild temperatures and spring flowers.
Day 1:
Arrive Amalfi, ancient maritime city, with charming piazza and beautiful cathedral.
Overnight Amalfi.
Day 2:
Today you have the choice of two walks; you can take a local bus up to discover the beautiful town of Ravello, perched on the hillside overlooking the sea. Spend time exploring the town and then an easy walk back down to Amalfi via the little town of Atrani, where the sea almost laps against the town’s piazza. Or you can take an ancient staircase up underneath the impressive limestone cliffs, towards the little village of Pontone. See the marvellous Torre dello Zirro, with unforgettable views of Amalfi to the one and Atrani to the other side. Walk through the charming village of Pontone itself and into the ‘Valle dei Mulini’, the valley of the watermills, with the ruins of Europe’s most ancient paper mills, dating back to the 11th century. Admire a number of beautiful waterfalls in the valley before returning to Amalfi.(Option one: 2 miles/3.2 km, 1.5 hours walk down from Ravello or Option two: 6 miles/9 km, 3 – 4 hours up and down). Day 3:
Transfer by local bus to the start of the Sentiero degli Dei (‘Pathway of the Gods’), one of the finest walk in Europe, with magnificent views, towering cliffs and flower-filled slopes. Through unique scenery with unrivalled views you reach the hamlet of Nocelle. Passing another spectacular valley you arrive in the little village of Montepertuso. After Montepertuso it’s only a short walk down to Positano. Overnight Positano, whose Moorish-style houses fall in tiers to the sea.(6 miles/9 km, 3 – 4 hours walking). Overnight Positano
Day 4:
Free day for relaxing or strolling. We can also provide a circular walk around the upper valley of Positano. First you take the local bus up to Montepertuso, then you climb up towards Santa Maria al Castello, the old fortress defending the narrow valley between the Amalfi- and Sorrento-side of the peninsula. From here you can admire both the Gulf of Salerno and the Bay of Naples. For those who want there is the possibility to climb up from here to the Monte Sant’Angelo, the highest mountain of the peninsula.(7 miles/ 11 km, 4.5 hours walking). Overnight Positano.
Day 5:
Today you can either choose to take a local bus or walk from Positano to the Colli di Fontanelle. This route partly follows the long distance trail ‘Alta Via dei Monti Lattari’ and passes along the fortified church of Santa Maria al Castello, Monte Comune, the ‘sailors’ beacon’ Monte Vico Alvano and the Colli of San Pietro. After a while the path descends and continues through olive groves towards the little hamlet of Torca. From here along well maintained paths you descend to Marina di Crapolla (where Saint Peter landed) where you can have a swim.
(Option one: 3.8 miles/6 km, 2.5 hours walk using the bus or Option two: 7.5 miles/12km, 5 hours walking)
Overnight and dinner Sant’Agata dei due Golfi in Maison Fernanda Relais and Cookery school with dinner each evening.
Day 6:
Take the local bus up to Termini or walk from your accommodation. There are tremendous views of Capri en route from Punta Campanella. From here you follow the medieval stairs up to the small church of San Costanzo, from where you have views over both the Bay of Naples and the Amalfi Coast. A spectacular path, running along the impressive cliffs of the headland, then brings you to the tip of the peninsula, where according to the legend Ulysses erected a temple in the honour of Athena. In some parts the path is a bit demanding, but never tough.
(Option one: 5 miles/8 km, 2.5 – 3.5 hours walk using the bus or Option two: 13 miles/20km, 6 – 7hours walking)
Overnight and dinner Sant’Agata dei due Golfi.
Day 7:
Today you have several options to walk down to Sorrento, according to your desire to walk and the time you want to dedicate to shopping and sightseeing in Sorrento. A beautiful route goes to the nice historic village of Massalubrense, and through several charming small hamlets within the same municipality, all surrounded by wonderful olive & lemon groves. An optional detour brings you to the castle from where Napoleon’s general followed the siege of Capri. A shorter route brings you along the village of Sant’Agata directly down to Sorrento. Whatever way you choose, you will enter Sorrento from a great viewpoint, from where all the painters over the centuries have depicted Sorrento, and made its fame. (3.8 miles/6 km, 2.5 hours walking). Overnight Sorrento.
Day 8:
Free day in Sorrento – from Sorrento you can undertake several interesting excursions: a day-trip to the island of Capri (we provide route notes for a walk), or a visit to Pompeii. There are also several nice options for an easy roundwalk, and perhaps a swim.

Arrival and Departure
From Naples airport take bus shuttle to main railway station. Take train to Salerno and from there a bus or boat to Amalfi.
At the end of the tour there is a direct train service to Naples. If going to the airport there is a direct private bus that is faster and more comfortable than going through Naples. Bus departs from outside the train station in Sorrento.
