This guided group walking week starts by the sea in the historical town of Viana do Castelo, moves inland to Ponte de Lima, the oldest town in Portugal and ends in Arcos de Valdevez, the gateway to the Peneda-Geres National Park. In essence we will be walking inland along the Lima valley, a beautiful tranquil place with its own unique identity which sings out from the rest of Portugal. The week offers a rich variety of walks from the dunes of the Atlantic to the mountains of the Serra de Peneda with something to please everyone.

Day 1 – Transfer from Porto or Porto airport to Viana do Castelo. Welcome dinner in the evening.
Day 2 – A walk along the Viana do Castelo coastline passing along the way the three historical forts that used to protect this area. We also visit the Bronze Age rock art preserved in the cliffs at Montedor. 14 kms/9 miles – overnight Viana
Day 3 – A walk through the traditional landscape of the Serra de Arga, once famous for its watermills. 12 kms/8 miles – overnight Ponte de Lima
Day 4 – The wetland area of Bertiandos was formed from the ancient ox-bow lakes of the river Lima and now they provide unique walking area and a home to many birds. 16 kms/10 miles – overnight Ponte de Lima
Day 5 – This walk that gives panoramic views over the Lima Valley as we make our way along mountain paths. 10 kms/7 miles – overnight Ponte de Lima
Day 6 – ‘Mezio & Ribeira de Vilela’, a walk along the borders of the Peneda National Park through traditional oak forests and tiny hamlets.12 kms/7.5 miles – overnight Ponte de Lima
Day 7 – A marvellous walk deep in the heart of the National Park to a small village where bartering is still the norm and all activities are controlled by the village council. 14 kms/9 miles – overnight Ponte de Lima
Day 8 – Transfer back to Porto in the morning
