Experience a week full of hiking in the most beautiful hiking region of the Salzburger Land, the Pinzgau with its famous holiday resorts Zell am See and Saalbach-Hinterglemm. Furthermore, you must not miss the opportunity to take a trip to the idyllic valley of the Pillersee in the Tyrol! Every day an impressive mountain backdrop greets you, every day a new mountain range.
The glorious highlight of this hiking week is the view over more than 30 mountains, more than 3000m in altitude which are situated along the Pinzgau mountain route. You can see the “König Glockner”, the Kitzsteinhorn-Glacier, High and Low Tauern and the Bavarian Alps! You are also treated to some fine local delicacies, such as the Pinzgau ‘Bladln’, ‘Nidai’ and ‘Buchteln’ ensuring your energy reserves are restored quickly and with lots of flavour.

Day 1: Individual arrival to Maishofen
Welcome meeting when you will be given all the materials for the hike.
Day 2: From Maishofen to Maria Alm
You start with a marvellous tour over the Kammereggalm to the Schwalbenwand, the famous double top of the Pinzgau meadow mountains. An impressive hiking tour with unforgetable views of differently shaped peaks are to be expected. A path through the forest ‘Hofer Plattl’ leads you to Hinterreit for a break and snack and then past the chapel of peace to Maria Alm, an idyllic pilgrimage destination and farming village.
Walking time: approx. 3-6.5 hrs/ 16 km / +1220 m – 1190 m
Day 3: From Maria Alm to Saalfelden/Weißbach
Through meadows you will follow the trails of pilgrims before the path takes you across a wonderful moorland on your way to the rugged mountain tops of the ‘Steinerne Meer’ (stoney sea).
On several high altitude routes with beautiful views up to the Steinalm, a sunny upland pasture with a cabin where you can stop by. The descent follows a steep path which leads you to a striking hermitage. Via the knight’s castle Lichtenberg you walk into the the historic town of Saalfelden.
Walking time: approx. 5 to 5.5 hrs / 13 km / +720 m – 780 m
Day 4: From Saalfelden/Weißbach to Pillerseetal
From the ravine ‘Vorderkaser’ in Weißbach, you will follow gurgeling streams on a diverse path to the heavenly situated hill pasture ‘Hochkaser’. This isolated pass traverse will lead you from the steep tops of the Leogang and Lofer mountains to the Tyrolian side. Via the Niederkaseralm and through the valley Griesel, the path goes along a wild and romantic riverbed into the wonderful valley of Pillersee with the backdrop of the Lofer mountains.
Walking time: approx. 5.5 to 6 hrs / 18 km / + 840 m – 720 m.
Day 5: From Pillerseetal to Saalbach-Hinterglemm
Via lush meadows and with a view of the Kitzbühel Alps, you walk into a deep valley from where a comfortable path under the dangling cable cars of the Magnesitenbergwerk (a mine) leads you up to the Burgeralm. After a rustic stop and after being well inivgorated by the best dessert called ‘Buchteln’, you walk downhill on a wonderful forest path and on a high-up route to the famous holiday resort Saalbach-Hinterglem. Or would you like to climb one of the numerous appealing mountain tops?
Walking time: approx 4.5 to 5 hrs / 16 km / +990 m -920 m.
Day 6: Day off in Saalbach-Hinterglemm
Enjoy a day off in the sport region, benefit from one of the services of your Joker-Card or take a comfortable walk to the Lindlingalm, where you can visit the forest park with its unique treetop walk-way and special activities all involving wood. Maybe a circular walk past the Saalalm to the end of the valley and from there uphill in the direction of Forsthofalm? There you should have a glass of homemade buttermilk and enjoy the panoramic view over the valley of the Saalach river.
Walking time: approx 3.5 hrs / 10 km / + 500 m – 500 m
Day 7: From Saalbach-Hinterglemm to Maishofen
On your final day one of the most beautiful high altitude routes of the Alpes can be expected! From Saalbach you take the cable car to the Schattenberg, where you start your tour on the ‘Pinzgauer Spaziergang’ (Pinzgau stroll). At an altitude of approx. 2000m with marvellous views of the surrounding mountain tops, you continue your way towards Schmittenhöhe. Here you can once again enjoy the fascinating 360 degree views of more than 30 mountains with an altitute of more than 3000m. Take the cable car down into Zell am See and the bus back to Maishofen.
Walking time: approx. 6 hrs / 17 km /+ 450 m – 490 m.

Salzburg is the most convenient airport to fly into and there are numerous flights in and out of the airport with low cost airlines. Munich or Vienna are also good options and there is a good train service to Salzburg.
