Seven days in the Czech Republic with four-day walking programme through the Krkonose National Park. The Krkonoše range stretches 40 km into Bohemian territory, creating a natural border between the Czech Republic and Poland, and is the Czech Republic´s highest mountain range. The highest peak is Mount Snezka (1,602 m). Several other peaks exceed 1,500 metres. In order to preserve both wildlife and the environment, Krkonoše was proclaimed a national park in 1963.

Departure Dates:

Day 1: Prague

Arrive and settle into your hotel.

 

Day 2: Prague to Janske Lazne (170km)

Transfer to Krkonose to Janske Lazne. This spa town, famous for its treatment of respiratory illness, nestles under the shade of the BlackMountain.  Circular walk on arrival.

 

Day 3: Janske Lazne to Pecpod Snezkou (14km)

Take the cabin lift to the Cerna Hora and start  with an easy walk around and up to the peak of Cerna Hora, with beautiful views of the town of Janske Lazne during the entire walk. The walk continues over the peaks of the mountains and passes several mountain lodges before walking down to the mountain town of Pecpod Snezkou.

 

Day 4: Pecpod Snezkou to Spindleruv Mlyn (trip A 15km, trip B 17km)

Trip A: The walk starts from Pec by cable car to Snezka (1602 m) and then you walk along the Czech and Polish Friendship Trail. The trail follows the border with Poland. Walk continues towards Spindlerova Lodge, built 1784 for mountain hotel purposes and continues all the way down to Spindleruv Mlyn.

Trip B: From Pec walk through Obri dul and passing several mountain lodges as you walk. Continue along old Buchar’s Trail which goes all the way from Snezka’s ridge to an open area above Spindleruv Mlyn where the most famous ski slopes in the Czech republic are situated. The walk continues down to the beautiful town of Spindleruv Mlyn. This mountain town in the heart of the Krkonose National Park is built on the banks of the River Labe – the largest river in the Czech Republic.

 

Day 5: Zlate navrsi (14km)

Take the chairlift from Spindleruv Mlyn to Medvedin {Bear Mountain}, from where you may enjoy the view on Spindleruv Mlyn and River Labe valley below. It is an easy walk up the hill to the Golden Top (Zlate Navrsi). The walk continues across Zlate Navrsi to Labska Lodge Hotel situated above Labe’s mine (mountain valley of glacier origin). Return to Spindleruv Mlyn for overnight.

 

Day 6: Harrachov to Rokytnice nad Jizerou (15km)

Transfer to Harrachov and the walk starts along Mumlava’s creek passing a waterfall to Mumlava’s mine, a valley of erosion origin. The walk continues up to Devil’s Mountain (Certova hora) and over Devil’s Plain (Certova). You walk past several traditional houses before you walk down to Rokytnice nad Jizerou

 

Day 7: Rokytnice nad Jizerou to Prague (140km)

Transfer from Rokytnice nad Jizerou to Prague.

 

Day 8: Prague

Transfer to the airport.

 

ACCOMMODATION:

2 nights in 3 star Hotel Andante close to Wenceslav Square on a bed and breakfast basis – all rooms with private bathrooms.

5 nights in Krkonose in traditional hotels – all rooms with private bathroom.

It is possible to upgrade to a 4 star hotel Certovka under Charles Bridge in the Old Town of Prague – additional cost £40.00 per person.

GETTING THERE:

By air to Prague airport. There are numerous flights to Prague from across the UK with budget airlines such as Ryanair, Easyjet and Jet2.

 

What to take:

Sturdy walking boots and walking socks (with a change of socks in rucksack), rucksack/day pack, 1 x water bottle with 1 litre capacity, insect repellent, sun glasses, sun hat, sunblock/cream, compass, torch, first-aid kit.
